Book Description

The walls are closing in on her perfect new life.

Single mother Elodie’s life has become a fairy tale. She’s met Bren, equal parts Golden-retriever-devoted and sinfully handsome. He’s whisked her and her autistic son, Jude, to the crumbling family house he’s renovating. She has a new husband, a new house, and a new baby on the way. Everything is perfect.

Until Jude claims he can hear voices in the walls. He says their renovations are “hurting” the house. Even Elodie can’t ignore it―something strange is going on.

The question is, Is it with the house, or with her son?

And what is Elodie hiding?

My Review

I’ve been on a horror kick recently, so this book piqued my interest with its haunted house theme.

Elodie is a 22 year old Australian woman who has recently moved to the US with her new American husband Bren and her six year old son Jude. They are renovating their family home, and preparing for their new baby. Everything is great, until it’s not.

Jude says he hears voices in the wall.

Elodie thinks the house is bleeding.

Bren says that the strain of the pregnancy is getting to Elodie and that she needs to rest.

Elodie doesn’t want to rest. Elodie wants to know what’s wrong with the house.

This book is definitely not what you are expecting. Even if you’re pretty savvy and figure out a couple of things, there are five more that you won’t see coming. And the ending… I… can’t say anything more.

I would recommend You Did Nothing Wrong. I found myself frustrated with the book immediately after finishing it, but after a couple of days of marinating, it has wormed its way into my heart, and I’m looking at it with more fondness as I write this review.

I received a digital ARC of this book from St. Martins/NetGalley.
