Book Description
Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now.
Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. So she sends an SOS to the only person she trusts . . .
As a thrilling race around the world begins, can Amy and Steve outrun and outsmart a killer?
Solving murders. It’s a family business.
My Review
There’s a really neat little feature on the Libby app called Skip the Line, where library networks put up copies of popular books that normally have super long wait times. It’s a grab bag box of chocolates and you never know what you’re going to find there.
That’s where I found the audiobook of this book. I’ve heard of the famous Thursday Murder Club, but I haven’t read any of the books. Nevertheless, the blurb piqued my interest, so I decided to check it out.
There’s a couple of different plotlines: Amy is a professional bodyguard who someone is trying to kill. Her FIL Steve is living his best retired life, but don’t be fooled: he still does a bit of detective work and he’s a retired police officer, so he really knows his stuff.
Eventually, the storylines converge and Amy and Steve (and mega famous author Rosie D’Antonio) are jetting all around the world trying to find out who keeps trying to kill them.
This book was a lot of fun. The characters are memorable and the plot is intriguing. There are some solid secondary characters as well who add a lot of pizzazz to the experience. The mystery is satisfying and there are so many facets that it’s hard to keep track of who is part of which faction. I don’t mean that in a negative way, but there is a lot of double crossing and big reveals etc… there’s always something exciting happening.
I would absolutely recommend We Solve Murders. I’m pleased that this is going to be a series because I had too much fun to say goodbye to the gang after only one book. And I’m certainly going to look into the Thursday Murder Club books in the meantime.
